Dear Car Friends<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a while since we last spoke. \u00a0\u00a0My son Mike & I are still building new\/old GT 350 race cars at the Shelby facility in Gardena CA. \u00a0We start with 1965 or \u201866 Hi Performance Mustang street cars, just like Carroll Shelby did <\/span>back in the day<\/span><\/i>, and transform them into clones of the GT 350 Competition Models ( R ) race cars that dominated B Production racing for years. One of our first buyers is from Germany. He visited our shop and brought the German equivalent of The Discovery Channel with him to see where the car is being built. \u00a0They also filmed a track test of our prototype 98-I race car, compared to a high performance street model \u201965 Mustang \u00a0at Willow Springs Raceway. \u00a0They\u2019ll put together a segment for their show later this summer, May or June, once the buyer\u2019s car is delivered. \u00a0Someone came up with the story line \u201cSuddenly It\u2019s 1965.\u201d \u00a0I kinda like it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, back at the shop, we\u2019re pretty excited about a real, actual, BARN FIND, or more correctly a SHED FIND. \u00a0When we were at the Monterey Concorso back in August, a gentleman was admiring our car and mentioned he had one \u201cjust like it\u201d that he bought years ago. \u00a0Turns out he\u2019d had the car \u201c30 or 40 years\u201d with the intention of restoring it to its\u2019 former racing glory. \u00a0He parked it between 2 sheds behind his hanger at the Monterey Airport, covered it with a tarp and went on with his worldwide business. \u00a0He\u2019s now liquidating the contents of the hanger and wanted to find a good home for \u201cthe car out back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

We were the right guys at the right time in the right place. \u00a0Five months later that car is back home with us, after 50 years away. \u00a0It\u2019s going to be fun to bring it back to racing condition. \u00a0This car is not one of the 36 R models Shelby built & sold in \u201965 & \u201966, but it was built to race with them. \u00a0Non-factory sponsored drivers were called PRIVATEERS \u00a0back in the day, and used the over the counter Shelby racing parts, and the same chassis tricks. <\/span><\/p>\n

Occasionally they beat the factory drivers. \u00a0If it\u2019s not a sibling, it\u2019s at least a cousin. \u00a0Unfortunately the guys working on these cars have little chance of turning themselves back into 25 year olds, but it\u2019s sure fun to restore the cars back to their youthful vigor. \u00a0Each one seems to have its own unique personality, and to see and hear them come to life is a thrill like nothing else.<\/span><\/p>\n
